โดยเฉพาะ รังสีอัลตราไวโอเลต (UV) ทั้ง UVA และ UVB รังสีเหล่านี้เปรียบเสมือนผู้บุกรุกที่ทรงพลัง พวกมันสามารถทะลุผ่านชั้นผิวและทำลาย DNA ได้โดยตรง กลไกปกป้องตัวเองของร่างกายก็จะเริ่มทำงานตรงจุดนี้โดย……..

เมื่อเม็ดสีเมลานินถูกผลิตและกระจายตัวไปทั่วเซลล์ผิวมากขึ้นเรื่อยๆ ผิวของเราจึงมีสีเข้มขึ้น สีที่คล้ำขึ้นนี้ก็คือ “เมลานิน” นั่นเอง ซึ่งเป็นผลพวงจากการที่ร่างกายพยายามสร้างเกราะป้องกันแสงแดดเพิ่มเติมนั่นเอง
กระบวนการนี้ใช้เวลาประมาณ 48-72 ชั่วโมงหลังจากโดนแดด จึงเป็นสาเหตุที่เรามักจะเห็นผลของผิวคล้ำหรือผิวไหม้หลังจากออกแดดแล้ว 2-3 วัน
UVA vs UVB:
แม้รังสี UVA และ UVB จะทำให้ผิวคล้ำได้เหมือนกัน แต่กลไกต่างกันเล็กน้อย:
• UVB: มีพลังงานสูง เป็นตัวการหลักที่ทำให้ผิว ไหม้แดง (Sunburn) และกระตุ้นการสร้างเมลานินใหม่ในทันที ทำให้ผิวคล้ำในระยะยาว
• UVA: มีพลังงานต่ำกว่าแต่ทะลุผิวได้ลึกกว่า เป็นตัวการสำคัญที่ทำให้ผิว หมองคล้ำ เกิดริ้วรอยก่อนวัยอีกด้วย
